Fabric Headboard
Using a piece of plywood, batting and material, McAloon fashions a floating headboard that anchors the bed. If you don't feel like cutting plywood, an old door can also be used. McAloon offers an upholstery tip: after you put the first staple in, fold the fabric back over that staple and then place another staple between that staple and the outer edge of the surface. This creates a strong bond that keeps the fabric in place.

The bamboo stencil on the wall complements the headboard and adds visual interest in the room. Hirsch uses a mixture of Venetian plaster and paint to add texture to the wall. Her trick to keep a stencil from slipping is to use spray mount to temporarily adhere the stencil to the wall. This is especially helpful when using a thicker paint.
