Before: Too Bright and No Romance
Emily Longaecker and Carl Robinson are high-school sweethearts who just bought their first house and are getting ready to be married. After college, they spent some time backpacking through Europe. The couple has very fond memories of being together in Paris, and they would love to bring some of that romantic style into their new home, especially their master bedroom (pictured, right). The massive room lacks personality and is rather stark. The couple also needs help with the big skylight over the bed. Right now, they have a towel tacked up over it to keep the sun from blaring down on the bed.

After: Time-Worn Elegance
With the help of host Joan Steffend, carpenter Jeff Meyer and less than $500, designer Debra Pesek turns an ordinary, bland bedroom into an extraordinary Parisian pad.

The makeover starts by painting the room a very soft, warm blue. Discarded ridge caps from a roof peak, (also known as flashing) are screwed onto the center of the ceiling to add some architectural interest to the space.
