Romantic Bedroom

Decorating Cents : Episode DCT-2704 -- More Projects »

Before: Noisy Furniture
Alex Mueller and Tiffany Shaw are split-shift parents. She works during the day, and he works nights. On the rare occasion they do have time to spend together, their bedroom (pictured, right) isn't the most inviting place to hang out. The couple has always rented, so they haven't invested a lot of time in decorating their bedroom. They only have one dresser, and it is very old and in bad shape. The drawers make so much noise that Tiffany insists Alex gets his clothes out the night before so he doesn't wake her each morning.

After: Fresh Romance
Next: Walls
With the help of host Joan Steffend, carpenter Jeff Meyer and less than $500, designer Barbara Sculati incorporates a fresh, romantic look into a drab, dorm-like bedroom.

The makeover starts by tearing up the dingy carpet. Luckily, the floor underneath is in great shape, so there are no carpet tacks to deal with. A little polish is all that is needed. Sculati lays down an area rug and then rearranges the furniture so the couple won't have to climb over each other to get into bed.

Floors – $33
area rug: Cream, 317-800, The Home Depot
