Before: Rest Stop for Unwanted Furniture
When Michelle and Glen Stern moved into their new home, they concentrated on decorating their kids' bedrooms rather than their own (pictured, right). Now they want a grownup, sophisticated look for their bedroom. They have found the look they want. It is a Moorish-style room that looks like it belongs in a medieval castle. The problem is the price tag is fit for royalty, ringing it at just over $138,000.

The Inspiration Room

Designed by Cathleen Gouveia, this Moorish-inspired room is made up of rich woods, heavy carvings, custom fabrics and rare antiques. The blend of dark furnishings with the light-colored walls and soft fabrics give the room a wonderful balance of masculine and feminine characteristics. The monochromatic color scheme makes the space very calming and soothing.

The Double Take team–makeover designer Michele Addey, budget shopper Halili Knox and carpenter Jamie Schmitt–combine their creative talents to clone this medieval setting for less than $3,000.
