A bland master bedroom gets revived with colors and fabrics that compose a calming, traditional style.

Before: The master bedroom has nice architectural features, lots of windows and plenty of potential. The homeowners confess they don't have a designer's eye and aren't attached to any of their mismatched furniture. They need help and are willing to admit it.

After: Placing the bed under the windows makes it a focal point in the room. Balance and symmetry are achieved with a custom headboard, hand-sewn curtains and valance and matching end tables. Traditional furnishings and fabrics set a relaxed tone in the room.

Before: The bland white wall color does nothing for this bedroom. The space has plenty of natural light and could use some depth and ambiance.

After: The walls are painted with two tones of the same color for a subtle effect—darker below the molding and lighter above. This simple look adds dimension and interest while the armoire fills the formerly bare wall with antique charm.
Chris and Jaime Geer were relocated from the Midwest to Phoenix and found their home in three days. Now that they're settled, the couple would like to see their washed-out, mismatched bedroom turn into a comfortable sanctuary. Student designer Emily Millman works hard to create a calming bedroom with traditional elegance. In the end, the Geers are delighted with the stunning transformation!
