Makeover Room, after: $1,800
Host Brooke Channon and designer Doug Dolezal work together to re-create the look of Dolezal's design in the Inspiration Room, which has a luxurious hotel feel and custom features.

Transforming the Makeover Room

Designer Doug Dolezal helped direct the transformation of a bland spare room into a grand guest room with the following steps:

  • Warmed up the impersonal white walls using a taupe color (Benjamin Moore: Tyler Taupe) and installed rods to hold the drapes.

  • Hung handmade drapes with a tea-stained background and a loose floral pattern featuring red hydrangeas.

  • Constructed matching headboards using birch and finished them with a walnut stain.

  • Pure white cotton sheets and a daffodil cotton chenille throw were used to create a luxurious look for the beds.

  • Antique wall sconces with cream shades and gold bases were strategically
placed over the headboards to add drama to the room.

  • The headboards were dressed with items such as a small shell sculpture, water carafes with glasses, an antique wall sconce with gold base, a framed photo of horse, a small bronze horse statue and an inexpensive candle.

  • Hung an original oil painting with earth tones on the wall; the painting was the perfect scale and added sophistication to the room.

  • To add interest to the room, finished a Greco-Turkish jar with brown glaze for an aged ethnic look.
