Donna Babylon inexpensively jazzes up a drab bedroom with wallpaper. Headboards can be expensive, but they do add dimension to a bedroom. She creates the illusion of a headboard with paint and wallpaper boarders, proving that it is both inexpensive and easy to coordinate sheets and curtains.
Materials:
measuring tape
prepasted wallpaper border
scissors
sponge
wallpaper brush
utility knife
straight edge (for mitering the corners)
Steps:
- Start by measuring out the area of your headboard. Do this with the pillows and comforter on the bed. Go as high up as you like, but two feet up from the bed surface is a good point from which to judge. If you are considering painting the wall, do this before applying the wallpaper border.
- Cut three lengths of wallpaper border. Be sure that the pieces exceed the measurements for the wall--you'll need the extra when mitering the corners.
- Immerse the border in water to activate the paste (30 seconds or so). Once the adhesive is activated, book the border (fold it in on itself) and let it sit for five minutes so it gets nice and gummy.
