He Said, She Said Peter and Gail Field's ideas to redecorate their 3-year-old son Jake's bedroom are as different as night and day. Peter wants to create a car theme in the room, complete with a car-shaped bed; Gail feels the room should be more timeless with traditionally styled furniture . Gail wants the room to have the capability of sleeping guests whereas Peter feels Jake should have his own room. She prefers to have the toys stored away and out of sight but Peter thinks the toys should be visible and easily accessible.
Shopping for Solutions
Michael Payne proposes a trundle bed so Jake can have his own bed with the option of sleeping an occasional guest, and he suggests open cabinetry under the window, which will create a display surface for Jake's many cars. Payne also proposes introducing Peter's much-desired car theme into the room through decorative items that are easily changeable as Jake gets older. Peter and Gail agree to Michael's plans and the three of them head off to shop for furniture. Despite Peter's desire for a car-shaped bed, he is willing to compromise. Gail likes the idea of bunk beds, but Peter doesn't. They are able to reach a compromise on a wood trundle bed. This shopping trip was a success despite Peter and Gail's vastly different tastes!
With the bed already selected, Payne, Gail and Peter set off to shop for wall color. Peter likes the idea of red walls; Gail prefers green. Payne finds a compromise with a dusty blue color that both Peter and Gail love. Now that the paint is chosen , the painter is busy painting Jake's room.
A Happy Ending
The trundle bed allows Jake to have his own bed with the option of having the occasional overnight guest, which makes both Peter and Gail happy. Although Peter wasn't able to get his car theme entirely, the car theme is evident in throw pillows and an area rug , as well as other accessories. Jake's toys are stored away in easily accessible cabinets with plenty of room for Jake to show off his abundant car collection. Both Peter and Gail are satisfied with the outcome, but Jake is perhaps the most content!
