Heather and Jim Russell’s bathroom is giving them a headache –– a harvest-gold headache. It is a full assault of a bad color scheme. The toilet, toilet-paper holder, sinks, floor, even the toothbrush holder is gold. Designer Krista Watterworth and carpenter Marc Bartolomeo have a design plan will transform this space from a gold migraine to a serene dream.

Besides having a bad color palette, the bathroom isn’t practical. The entire family of five has to share this room. They need a lot of space and storage, and there isn’t much of either. Also, taking up a lot of space are the two doorways into the room. One is from the master bedroom, and the other is from the hallway. When the hallway door opens, it smashes into the toilet. If anyone happens to be sitting there, they wind up with bruised knees. The homeowners also detest the tub and shower. The ceiling is very low, making the shower feel confined, and the tub is too shallow.
