Bed & Bath Design : Episode BDE-1004 -- More Projects »
Host Joan Kohn visits the master suite of Arthur and Cara Maxwell, who gutted their saltbox Colonial situated on five lush acres and reconfigured an extra bedroom and bathroom into the existing master suite. As a part of the new master suite, designer Leslie Saul created an inviting foyer from which the bedroom or the bath can be entered . The small, simple room adds to the feeling of privacy in both the bed and bath rooms .

Blue and white above-counter vessel sinks provide a soft touch of color in the white marble bath.
  • The bedroom is decorated primarily in white, with muted green accents. Textured textiles add interest. Furniture painted with a distressed finish in white keeps the look pure and simple.
  • The ceiling in the bedroom is a half-vault filled with skylights. A backlit soffit that extends up to the vault pulls the eye up.
  • The serene-feeling bedroom is used almost exclusively for sleeping. Clutter and distractions are nonexistent.
  • The bath continues the emphasis on white with white marble and tile for the floor , tub and shower surround. Vessel sinks at the double vanities in blue and white add a soft touch of color.
  • The unusual bathroom layout has the soaking tub positioned between the two vanities . The shower is tucked into a corner with an all-glass surround that helps deemphasize its presence.
  • French doors open onto a balcony and whirlpool, a favorite spot in the springtime .
  • Flooring is wide, random plank wood in a lower grade. The knots and burls add texture and interest.
