Metal Works
Bed & Bath Design : Episode BDE-1001 -- More Projects »
One of the most popular trends in bath design is the use of metals: stainless steel , bronze, nickel, copper and gold. Host Joan Kohn joins designer Robie Brenner to take a look at design possibilities and considerations when adding metal to the bath .
- Stainless steel is the most popular choice of metals in the bath. It is versatile, durable, and can assume any shape and form. It is used for tubs, sinks, counters, shelves, hardware and accessories.
- Metal can be the focal point of the room, or add just a gleam used in small amounts . Paired with natural materials like wood and stone, it loses its cool, hard edge .
- Different metals age differently. Some take on the patina of age, and others can be treated with sealants that create a life-long finish.
- Metal usually requires regular maintenance to keep its pristine good looks, and this should be a consideration when deciding on materials.
- Sinks and faucets are now available in an array of metals, like bronze, copper , matte chrome, polished and satin-finish nickel, even gold and platinum, that can create a cool modern look or traditional Old World look.
