The bathroom is tiled halfway up the wall with soft white matte tiles, edged with a handmade rope border.

Host Joan Kohn visits the Tudor style home of Perry and Judy Baker Merling. Because the couple entertains frequently, they wanted a master suite that could function as a serene refuge. With the help of designer Jill Grossman, they reconfigured two bedrooms into the new master suite, one bedroom being devoted completely to a fabulous walk-in closet and laundry.

  • A soothing color palette of cream and celadon was used throughout the suite.
  • The master bedroom was streamlined, with only nightstands, a chest and multiple bookcases in the sleeping area. A cozy sitting nook has a sofa, antique desk and bookcase.
  • Five large new casement windows were added.
  • The bookcases in the sleeping area were built to be the same height as the bottom of the windows, so a clean horizontal line is created around the room.
  • The carpeting an imitation sisal in muted gold.
  • The bathroom is not huge--it has a soaking tub and glass-enclosed shower.
  • The bathroom is tiled in matte white tiles halfway up the wall, topped with a rope border.
  • The vanity is painted celadon green, and the counters are maple, treated to be impervious to moisture. The entire wall above the vanity is devoted to three mirrored medicine cabinets.
  • The bathroom floor is travertine marble.
