A separate dressing area has marble countertops, drawers for jewelry and makeup, and a large closet with easy access to storage.

Host Joan Kohn visits the master suite of Larry and Pam Fein, who have adapted their one-story rancher to be completely wheel-chair accessible. Irma Dobkin, a specialist in universal design, explains that good design should speak to various abilities through a broad continuum of life. She works to make universal design attractive and not just utilitarian.

  • The bedroom has a lot of open floor space so that a wheelchair can maneuver easily.
  • The shower has no lip barrier and is extra large for easy wheel chair access . There are numerous grab bars in the shower.
  • Plenty of space is allowed under the sink so a wheelchair can come in close. Faucets are placed close to the edge for easy access.
  • A marble vanity and dressing area is both elegant and private.
  • An entry/exit is positioned in the bathroom for emergencies. It also has nice access to the garden area.
