Because the bathroom vanity was so narrow, a wet bar sink was used instead of a standard size bowl.
Host Joan Steffend visits a home where the owner has created a rustic country look with pine wood, natural elements and weathered accessories. Some examples:
  • In the kitchen, the homeowner replaced the worn laminate countertop with a $50 look-alike butcher-block top made from pine boards. She strapped 2" x 10" pine boards together with metal straps and finished the edge with a 1" x 2" pine strip. The boards were then placed on the countertop and the hole for the sink was cut out. The top was attached with screws and treated with several layers of marine-grade polyurethane.
  • She created extra cabinet space out of 1" x 10" boards and attached matching doors on the bottom. Molding on the top of each cabinet unifies the look.
  • Rustic ceiling beams have been created out of 1" x 4" boards and rough-sewn cedar planks.
  • The adjoining sunporch features rustic pine floors, salvaged shutters and a newel post gas light lamp.
  • The bathroom contains a vanity with a rustic pine wood top, a weathered wall cupboard and a towel cabinet with wire mesh doors.
