Figure D
Host Renai Ellison shows how to create unique bathroom decor with carved wooden blocks.

Materials:

flat latex wall paint
paintbrushes
oil or latex-based printing inks
carved wooden blocks with decorative designs (generally available at flea markets, websites, antique stores)
brayer
cloth
fabric (Silk Dupioni was used on the show.)

* Note: You might want to experiment first before beginning on a wall.

Steps:

  1. Paint bathroom with the chosen wall color. Let dry well.

  2. Ink wooden blocks (figure A) with a brayer (figure B), and gently stamp a design onto the wall surface in either a random pattern or by creating stripes and a pattern. Leave to dry.

  3. You can also print wallpaper or fabric with blocks (figure C), creating your own designer wallpaper.

  4. Lay paper or fabric on top of a cloth pad and stamp with blocks.

  5. Hang paper as you would any wallpaper, or staple fabric to wall (figure D) .
