A frame decorated with topiaries is another option for a garden theme.
A custom look for mirrors or picture frames that matches bedspreads, wallpaper or murals is easy to create. Host Joan Kohn joins decorative artists Catherine Phelps and Marietta Dembski for a demonstration of how to make a picket fence frame for a mirror that matches a garden theme mural.

Steps:

  1. Purchase a window pane mirror at a craft store. Sand the surface lightly, wipe clean, and paint white.
  2. Search the fabric store for a variety of garden-themed objects to glue to the mirror: picket fencing, birdhouse, flowers, bugs, rakes, etc. Paint in appropriate colors, if necessary.
  3. Lay out the design of objects at the bottom of the mirror before gluing on with hot glue. Attach picket fencing first, being sure to apply glue to the edges (figure A) as well as the back. Don't get hot glue on the mirror itself.
  4. To make a birdhouse for the side of the frame, paint a dowel blue and glue to the side. Attach birdhouse shape at the top with more glue.
  5. To embellish the fence, hang a small straw hat with dried flowers glued around the brim.
