Host Joan Kohn visits the master suite of Tim and Joan Moran. Tim built the home long before the couple was married, and the goal of the renovation was to turn his master suite into theirs. Designer Ann Grasso felt it was important to maintain the structural beauty of the bedroom, like the high ceilings, arched doorways and French doors. The bathroom got the biggest makeover, most notably with his and hers vanities .
- The walls were painted soft green, and contemporary sconces were placed high on the wall and painted the same color. Their presence and the illumination they provide is very soft.
- The biggest makeover in the bed area was the fireplace, which was designed to echo the architectural elements found in the bedroom and bath. Its shape compliments the French window opposite, and the mirror on the mantel reflects its light.
- Water views were important in the bath, so the dormer was widened and windows were added.
- A large oval soaking tub sits under the dormer windows. To fit the oval in, a platform two to three steps high was built.
- The steam shower is glass enclosed. The wall to which the European fixtures are mounted is painted white so that the glass over it lends a beautiful sheen.
- The water closet has an etched glass door that allows privacy but admits the light.
- The limestone flooring is outfitted with radiant heat.
- The vanities have glass bowl sinks that are underlit with a soft light at night .
