A gorgeous antique mirror over the vanity frames the view of the tiled whirlpool tub surrounded by etched glass windows.
Host Joan Kohn visits the remodeled bath of Nina Rosen, who worked with designer Barbara Hawthorn to create an Old World look for the large room without spending a lot of money. Structurally, everything but the vanity was left intact. The cosmetic changes and accessorizing created a dramatic change while staying in budget.
  • To save money on materials, a ceramic tile that mimics the look of tumbled marble was used. Light beige tiles created the background color, accented with insets of dark camel-toned tiles.
  • The vanity doors were painted with elements that might have been found in an authentic old Roman home: an urn, leaves and olives. The medicine cabinet was framed and painted to match the doors.
  • Brushed-nickel fixtures at the sink and tub enhance the Old World look.
  • Real antiques and artifacts were added to lend an authenticity to the ancient look: the vanity mirror frame of wood, the huge urns at the tub, iron lattice work and sconces.
  • Etching transformed the glass of the shower and windows, once again enhancing the Old World look and adding an element of privacy.
