Leather and Punched Tin Travel Candles

Leather Candle

Materials:

large travel candle tin kit (see below)
Leather Factory 8-1/2" x 11" medium chocolate brown suede trim piece
Leather Factory Conchos
Leather Factory horse hair tassels
Leather Factory waxed linen thread
small hole punch
Walnut Hollow Creative Versa-Tool
glue

Steps:

1. Add candle wax to tin.

2. Cut leather trim piece into a 2-5/8-inch circle and two 5" x 1-3/8" strips.

3. Use the Versa-Tool to brand the leather. Brand a design on the round leather pieces (figure A).

4. Punch five holes at the ends of each leather strip (figure B).

5. Use the linen thread to lace the sides together around the tin (figure C).

6. Add the tassel to the concho. Glue the concho on top on the leather round. Glue the leather round to the top of the tin.

Punched Tin Candle

Materials:

Yaley travel candle tin kit (see below)
DMD Paper Reflections silver wave 8" x 11" metallic paper
Emagination Crafts 1/4", 1/8", 1/16" ribbon hole punches
ThermOWeb Peel n Stik 5-1/2" x 9" double-sided adhesive sheet
transfer paper
8-1/2" x 11" black card stock
glue

Steps:

1. Use the transfer paper to apply pattern to the backside of the silver paper. Cut out shapes.

2. Punch all holes in the silver paper (figure D).

3. Glue the silver paper to the black card stock (figure E). Be sure to apply glue so that it does not come through the holes.

4. Apply the double-sided adhesive to the back of the black paper. Cut out the black paper along the edges of the silver shape (figure F).

5. Remove the backing from the adhesive and apply the round punched shape to the top of the lid of the tin (figure G). Apply the punched strip along the edges of the tin.

To make the travel candles:

Materials:

Yaley Travel Tin Kit *
double boiler
heat source (stove or hot plate)
thermometer
Yaley concentrated candle dye
Yaley candle scent

* Kit includes: small tin, large tin, 2 pounds creme wax, 1-ounce liquid candle scent of your choice, 3/4 ounce dye block of your choice, 6 large zinc core pre-waxed 9" candlewicks, instructions

Steps:

1. Use the double boiler to melt the candle wax to 180 degrees.

2. Remove the wax from the heat and let it cool to 170 degrees. Add color and scents.

3. Pour a small amount of the wax into the tin. Let the wax stand for a few minutes, until it becomes tacky.

4. Push the round metal clip on the bottom of the wick into the center of the tin.

5. Fill the tin with the wax to 1/4 inch below the top rim (figure H).

6. Let stand for several hours to settle (figure I).

7. Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting candle and after each use.

NEVER BURN CANDLES ON SURFACES SENSITIVE TO HEAT. NEVER LEAVE A LIGHTED CANDLE UNATTENDED. KEEP OUT OF DRAFTS AND OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
