Guest Vivian Peritts demonstrated how to make this candle.
Materials:
1" x 4" strips of sheet wax in assorted colors
Yaley wax glue
2.8" white ball candle
razor blade or cane cutter
mat knife and mat
white dipping (premium taper) wax
Steps:
1. Cut three 1" x 4" strips per cane of three different colors of sheet wax.
2. Peel off the backing paper and make a tight roll with the first color.
3. At the end of the first color, start the second color, and then the third and last color (figure A).
4. Roll the cane gently in between the palms of your hands.
5. Make several canes of different color combinations (figure B).
6. Use the cane cutter to cut 1/8-inch slices of the cane.
7. Apply the cane slices to the candle with wax glue (figure C).
8. Dip the candle twice in the dipping wax (figure D). To dip the candle, hold it by its wick with good pair of pliers (ones with ridges that can hold the wick securely) and lower it into the container of wax. You can also dip by holding the candle by the bottom with your fingers. The size of the container used for dipping is very important. It must be tall enough to accommodate the candle.
