Materials:

blow dryer
scissors

The dusty-looking film, or bloom, on a beeswax sheet signifies that it is 100 percent beeswax. Remove the film by going over the sheet with a blow dryer on the low setting. As the bloom disappears, the color of the wax will intensify.

Figure B
Two-Toned Taper

Steps:

  1. Place two different colored sheets of beeswax on top of each other. Cut through both diagonally to get two sets of triangles.
  2. Move the top sheet of one set slightly forward so that 1/4" to 1/2" of the shortest side of the bottom sheet is visible (figure A). Cut a piece of wick slightly longer than this area.
  3. Place the wick on the visible part of the bottom sheet so that one end meets the longer side of the triangle, and the other end hangs over the diagonal side.
  4. Carefully roll the bottom sheet of beeswax around the wick (figure B). The more tightly the wick is rolled, the longer the candle will burn.
  5. Continue rolling the bottom sheet until it meets the top sheet. Then, roll them both up together.

Figure C
Column Candle

Steps:

  1. Cut sheets of beeswax into pieces of equal size.
  2. Roll a wick up in one piece, and roll another piece around the first by placing the edge of the second piece against the visible edge of the first (figure C). Continue adding pieces until the candle is as wide as desired.
  3. To add a second color to the column, cut patterns out of a sheet and wrap the sheet around the column. The first color will show through the top layer.

Note: If the beeswax breaks while being rolled, simply pat it back together.

  1. Save designs cut out of beeswax sheets, and press them onto the inside of a glass container.
  2. Fill the container with wax granules, and add a wax wick. The granules will melt as the candle burns.
