Chair Throw

Materials:

any black-and-white photograph
computer scanner
spray glue
muslin
typing paper
cloth backing (for the throw)
fusible backing
iron
black ribbon
sewing machine or foam-core board

Steps:

  1. Scan a black-and-white photo on a computer scanner (figure A). Play with the image on your screen to come up with some fun and interesting images and colors.

  2. When you are ready to print, simply spray glue some ordinary muslin onto typing paper and print on the muslin surface. Remember, you'll print out a separate image each time.

  3. Trim the border around each picture and place them on the backing. Use fusible webbing and an iron to hold the pictures in place before stitching them.

  4. Use a black ribbon as a border between the pictures (figure B).

Other Ideas

  • If you don't want to get out the sewing machine, just place four pictures together onto foam-core board and hang on the wall (figure C).

  • A digital camera and computer can be used to create an incredible photo collage. Simply cut up the images and combine them to create a single image (figure D). Mount on foam-core board.

  • Simple colors on heavy stock paper can be reproduced, then you can cut out the images and use them to create a children's mobile.
