More craft products? Yes, believe it or not...more. Lots more. Not all of them are necessarily brand new, but they were new to us. Perhaps they will be to you as well.
Item number one was for the scrapbookers out there and seemed to be a very clever and practical idea. Imagine that you have just completed the PERFECT scrapbook page. Everything turned out as you had planned and the pictures are perfect. It’s just too wonderful to bury in the pages of a scrapbook. So don’t. A company called Page Frame Designs has what they call their Picture It Page Frames. These are clear plastic frames into which you slide the entire page and then hang it on the wall. The frames are actually solid pieces so the page is protected front and back, and it is designed so that they can be hung instantly. You do not have to add hangers to the back. They come in a variety of sizes. And when you decide that you have done another perfect page, you can just slip the first picture out and insert the latest. Or buy another frame. They also come in a variety of sizes to fit whatever size page you make.
And then there were the ChYOPs stickers! ChYOPs? That means Choose Your Own Paper. These too, were rather clever. They were many different short descriptions printed on plastic. At first glance they look like black sheets with white printing, but these are stickers remember. You pull the black plastic away from the white paper it was sticking to and you see that the letters are not white but clear. Press the sheet to your choice of colored paper and you have colored letters with a black border. But if black is not your choice, these are available on white plastic as well. With the see-thru letters you can have as many different colors and patterns as you have pages. These are from Mercer Motifs Inc.
Candles have certainly become an important part of home decorating in the past years, and now we have items to decorate the candles. These Candle Wraps, surprisingly enough, are made of paper. The wraparounds come in different colors and different patterns They are not fireproof but they are flame-resistant, and while they are not recommended for use on taper candles, on the three-inch or larger candles they are fine and certainly attractive. Candle raffia is also available for the same company, Artomni.
It wasn’t too many years ago that when we thought of Fiskars, we thought of orange-handled scissors and that was all. Things have changed, however, and Fiskars is now very much into craft products, many of them having to do with cutting. One of their more recent contributions was the shape cutter that could be used freehand or by placing it into a thick plastic template to cut out various shapes. Apparently these have been a hit, because more and more of the templates are available. The ones I selected as my current favorites were the alphabet templates. The results look as if they might have been cut using a die cut machine. There are also templates for different box shapes, including the very popular pillow box, so now instead of using a template to draw the shape before you cut it out, you can go directly to the cutting. A second template shows you where to score and fold the boxes.
But that wasn’t all from Fiskars. They also introduced a different line of templates to use with the Shape Boss. This is for embossing. Generally we need a light source under our work when embossing using templates. In this case, there are two rather large (about 12" x 12") plastic sheets that stack on top of each other and are held in place by putting pegs thru the matching holes. The bottom sheet has a variety of designs to emboss and the top sheet is actually the template sheet with all of the designs cut out. It is of clear plastic, so no light is needed. There are many different designs that can be used alone or with other designs.
