Designed by guest Vesta Abel.
Materials:
various pasta shapes (rigatoni, bow ties, spirals, etc.)
black pigment ink pad
clear embossing ink pad
black embossing powder
embossing pearl powders (red, blue, violet & green)
Adirondack embossing powders (any colors)
clear & gold ultra-thick embossing enamels
heavy wire or wooden skewer
gold wire
paint brush
heat tool
glass of cold water
To make Raku-look beads:
1. Press both ends of pasta on a black pigment inkpad to cover edges.
2. Place pasta on a skewer and roll on the black pad to completely cover with ink (figure A).
3. Sprinkle inked beads with black embossing powder; heat with heat tool until melted.
4. While bead is still hot, sprinkle tiny pinches of the four embossing pearl colors randomly and heat as you go (figure B). Sprinkle on tiny bits of gold ultra-thick enamel to create gold speckles; heat until melted.
To make designer color beads (figures C & D):
1. Repeat steps 1 & 2 for Raku beads using the clear embossing pad until pasta is completely inked.
2. Sprinkle on various Adirondack color powders and heat until melted. Then quickly cover with clear ultra-thick embossing enamel and heat until melted. Add more pinches of the same Adirondack colors used at first and heat until melted. Add tiny bits of gold ultra-thick randomly and heat again.
TIPS:
To cool beads quickly, thrust them into cold water and then pull them off the skewer.
Create a necklace with heavy yarns or cords and your pasta beads or tie them on decorator candles with raffia.
