A dandy idea for the Shoebox was sent in by Cathleen Miller of El Cajon, Calif.,--this one inspired by a statement I had made on a previous show. Cathleen wrote, "One morning I was having my first cup of coffee watching your show" (she watches at 6 a.m.) "and at one point you were saying that you didn't think there was anything else that people could stencil on. Well, as you said that I looked up and I saw my overhead fan blades, which were a very dark wood-grain color, and I thought they could use a good cleaning. Instead I thought of your words and I took them as a challenge."

What Cathleen did was take down the blades, wash them well, paint them white, edge them in gold, and then stencil roses near the end of each blade! (figure A) Apparently Cathleen has more than one overhead fan, because she went on to say that on the other set, she decorated with rub-on strawberries. From the photographs that she sent, they all look great! (figure B)

Jean Borski of Bloomingdale, Ill., sent in a funny idea that she said she tried many times when her four daughters were little girls playing with dolls. She cut off the top 2 inches or so from a pair of adult white socks, and then took a small stitch halfway across the cut edge, turning the sock cuff into a pair of doll underwear! (figure C) She said the girls just loved them!
