sanded ceramic tile adhesive and grout
disposable gloves
putty knife
mat board
double-sided tape
glass mosaic tiles
tile nipper tool
safety glasses
bucket of water
sponge

Steps:

  1. Choose your concrete ornament. There is a wide variety available. Think about the design before applying it to the piece.

Figure A
  • If you are planning a geometric design, cut a piece of mat board in that shape. Then use a piece of double-sided tape to adhere the mat board to the concrete form (figure A).

  • Wearing safety glasses, trim any needed pieces of glass tiles with the tile nipper so pieces can fit into small areas.

  • Wear disposable gloves to protect hands from sticky grout. Use a putty knife to apply an 1/8-inch layer of the tile adhesive and grout (figure B), outlining the geometric shapes first. Push tiles into the grout so it squeezes up around the tile (figure C).

  • After the grout has dried, apply another coat of grout (figure F), wiping the excess from the top of the tiles with a wet sponge (figure G).

  • After this application has dried, use a scouring pad (dishwashing kitchen sponge), to remove any leftover grout and clean up the piece.
