The Carol Duvall Show cameras visit Dee Marcellus Cole, an artist who makes sculptures in a very traditional way--but there's nothing traditional about the results . Her papier-mache sculptures range in size from 3 feet all the way up to 6 feet. Some are freestanding while others are wall sculptures, but each has a Latin flare in color and shape. Cole is currently working on a collection of carnival dancers influenced from her recent trip to Bolivia.

Cole shows the stages involved in the creation of these magical creatures. She begins by laying out her design on cardboard. This template is then turned into a three-dimensional version of her drawing. This provides the basic skeleton to the piece. She then stuffs the form to give it strength and curves. Now she's ready for the elaborate papering process. Using a paper and a water-glue mixture, the forms really begin to take shape. Once dry, she starts the elaborate painting process. Bold colors melt with intriguing features to create one-of-a-kind sculptures out of the simplest materials.
