Stamped Clay Tray & Coasters

Materials:

rubber stamps (below)
air-dry clay
acrylic paint
craft knife
water-based varnish
bronze powder pigment & cotton swab (optional)
cardboard template

Steps:

1. Roll the terra cotta clay to 1/2-inch thickness. Tip: Place 1/2-inch-thick boards on both sides of the clay to roll the clay to the exact width.

2. Impress the rubber stamp leaf image on top of the clay’s surface (figure A).

3. Cut a template and place over the design; then cut out the shape with a craft knife (figure B).

4. Remove the excess clay and allow to air dry completely (figure C).

5. Paint the dried stamped impressions with acrylic paint (figure D).

6. Spread a light amount of bronze pigment powder with a cotton swab (figure E) or fingers to create an aged or vintage appearance.

7. Apply a water-based varnish to protect the clay tiles.

8. Use a glass or vase for a template to make round coasters, or make small square coasters using a smaller square template.

Olive Stamped Place Mats

Materials:

mustard gold cotton sheeting (2 rectangles 10"x 17-1/2")
mustard gold cotton sheeting ( 4 strips 2"x 17-1/2")
olive green cotton sheeting ( 2 rectangles 10" x 17-1/2")
olive green cotton sheeting ( 4 strips 2"x 17")
mustard gold cotton sheeting (4 rectangles 13"x17-1/2")
cotton batting (4 rectangles 13" x 17-1/2")
olive branch foam stamp #74009
stamping paints: Seminole Green #65026, Straw #65028, Black #65004
fine paintbrushes
paper plate
water
applicator wedge sponges #67002
black textile marker

Steps:

  1. Shake stamping paints well. Pour a small amount onto paper plate. Use flat edge of wedge sponge to load paint onto sponge. Apply paint to stamp in patting motion. Stamp onto surface.
  2. Use Seminole green paint to stamp olive branch in a random pattern mustard gold cotton sheeting rectangles. Allow to dry. Use black textile marker to color all olives black.
  3. Use Straw paint to stamp olive branch in a random pattern on olive green cotton sheeting rectangles. Allow to dry. Use paintbrush and black stamping paint to color all olives black.
  4. On olive green fabric strips, paint a wavy line with straw paint, embellish with dots.
  5. On mustard gold fabric strips, paint a wavy line with Seminole green paint, embellish with dots.
  6. Using 1/4" seam allowance, sew olive green strips to top and bottom of stamped mustard rectangle.
  7. Using 1/4" seam allowance, sew mustard green strips to top and bottom of stamped olive green rectangle.
  8. Layer (as follows) to sew layers together w/ 1/4" seam allowance: stamped side facing right side of plain mustard gold rectangle (13"x17"), lay batting on top, pin together and stitch 1/4" on all four sides leaving a 3" opening to turn inside out. Trim batting close to stitching and clip corners, turn inside out, slipstitch opening closed. Press.
