Steps:

1. Using a 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper, fold the 11-inch side in half.

2. Fold just one side of the paper in half again. Start this fold from the crease to the outside edge of the paper.

3. Open the card. If using background paper, glue it to the right side of the inside of the card.

4. Set the circle cutter to cut a three-inch circle. Place a shelving mat beneath the cutter to keep it from slipping, then turn the cutter clockwise to create the circle (figure A).

5. Cut a three-inch circle from a sheet of card stock as a template. Also cut a 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" piece of card stock for second template.

6. Center the cutout circle on the right side of the card and trace lightly around it.

7. Fold the circle template in half and place on the traced circle with the round end facing the right. Draw a line down the middle of the traced circle.

8. Place a cutting mat under the card. With the circle cutter, cut a half circle through both thickness of the card. Starting and stopping at the center line of the traced circle.

9. Open up the card. With a ruler and craft knife, cut the middle vertical line of the traced circle. The half circle should push out, creating an opening for the image to pop through (figure B).

10. Position the card so the half circle opening is at the top left.

11. Working on the inside of the card, place the template with the edge next to the circle half at the bottom left of the card. The template will extend a little beyond the circle on each side.

12. Starting with the edge that goes beyond the circle, score around the template with a stylus tool, stopping just before the middle of the circle. Do not score the middle of the circle.

13. With a cutting mat under the card, cut the two, horizontally scored lines. Use a metal edge ruler to help make straight cuts (figure C). Figure D shows the line after cutting.

14. Fold the card in half. Crease the middle edges of the card using your thumbs. Glue the outside edges of the card together.

15. As you creased the middle edges of the card, note that the center panel wants to move forward. With your finger behind it, crease it forward into a valley fold (figure E). Close the card.

16. To decorate, color computer clip art images with markers and cut out to fit on the three-inch circle. Glue this to the circle in the front of the card (figure F). Stamp a greeting inside the card and add stickers if desired. Stamp Christmas greeting on another strip of paper for the front of the card and cut with decorative-edge scissors. Run a red pen on the edge of the decorative cut to color the edge of the strip. Glue the greeting to the front of the card.

17. To add a ring around the circle of the card, choose a setting larger than three inches on the circle cutter and cut a circle from scrap paper. Do not remove the circle cutter from the paper, but loosen the knob and move the blade to the original three-inch setting. Make the second cut within the bigger circle to create the ring (figure G). To create a decorative-edge ring, use decorative-edge scissors to trim around leftover holes cut from circles.
