If you are looking for a new way to amuse your friends or loved ones, Jane Beard from the Museum of Modern Rubber shows you how to make a Magic Slate greeting card.
Materials:
M-663 Rubber Sketcher stamp
your choice of background stamps
card stock (white and red) - 6" x 10"
Magic Slate
craft knife
ruler
stamp pad, brush markers
glue stick
cellophane tape
foam tape
optional: embossing paint/gel/powder
Steps:
- Stamp the Rubber Sketcher on a piece of red card stock.
- Emboss if desired.
- Cut out the center (screen area) and then around the outside of the Rubber Sketcher with a craft knife. Use a ruler to make exact cuts.
- Fold and decorate a piece of white card stock.
- Glue the Rubber Sketcher image onto the folded card stock.
- Trace center of Rubber Sketcher and cut out with craft knife.
- Remove the top plastic sheet from the background of the purchased Magic Slate. Tape to the back of the opening in the card. Glue the waxy board to the inside of the card so it lines up with the plastic sheet.
- Run a line of glue along the fold on the inside of the card. This ensures that the two layers of Magic Slate are in contact.
- Attach the stylus to the card with a piece of ribbon or make a little paper loop and attach it through a slot in the card.
- Write a message, then lift to erase. Over and over again!
Beard's Advice:
- Cut out separate knobs from a second stamped image and attach over the knobs on the card, using foam tape to give them dimension.
- If you decide to emboss the card, pour a lot of embossing powder on the card and tap off the excess for re-use.
- For a multi-colored background, use a rainbow stamp pad and line up the outer edge of the stamp with the previous design.
