Angela has always been an avid fan of stained glass and has proven time and time again the versatility of this medium. In this project, she reveals her process for a stained glass trinket box.
Materials:
contact paper
stained glass
glass cutter and oil
glass nipper
copper foil
flux
soldering iron
solder permanent marker
glass grinder
metal tubing
wire rod
wire chain
cleaning solution
toothbrush
Steps:
1. Start with a sketch. Laminate sketch with Contact paper.
2. Cut strips of glass for sides and bottom of box. Foil them with copper foil.
3. Brush flux across copper foil (helps solder stay together). Solder box bottom together and set aside.
4. For lid: Put glass onto pattern and trace each piece.
5. For black glass (woman's head and hair): Trace design to carbon paper, cut out pieces of carbon paper, place on glass, and trace around.
6. Cut out all pieces for lid. Fire up the grinder and shape to perfection.
7. Foil each piece with copper foil. Brush flux across copper foil.
8. Tack solder all pieces and then remove from design. Final solder.
9. Solder tube onto back of lid. Thread a rod through the tube, bend ends down, and solder ends into inside of box.
10. Cut piece of chain. Solder one end of chain to inside of box and one end to lid.
11. Wipe off box with cleaning solution. Use toothbrush to get into corners.
