Figure D
Guest Ellie Joos designed and demonstrated how to make this faux stained glass lampshade.

Materials:

glass or acrylic lampshade
Decra Led adhesive-backed lead and boning tool
Decra Led adhesive-backed colored film
squeegee
rubbing alcohol
scissors
pen
spray bottle with water
beaded fringe
glue

Steps:

1. Clean the lampshade with rubbing alcohol.

2. Draw your design (figure A) and then trace it on the lampshade lightly in pencil. Clip art and stencils make great patterns, placed behind the glass and traced over, or just draw yours freehand.

3. Trace the pattern onto the film and cut the colored film to fit the spaces in your design (figure B).

4. Peel off the back of the film. Lightly spray with water and place it on the shade. Use a squeegee to smooth the surface (figure C).

5. Cut lengths of lead and apply them to the shade, being careful to cover all raw edges of the film (figure D).

6. Use the boning tool to firmly smooth the lead along the top and side edges.

7. Glue the fringe around the bottom inside edge of the lampshade.
