Figure C
Host Renai Ellison welcomes Katheryn Bieber of E-Z Craft, who gives a demonstration of how to add a touch of elegance to decor with homemade mosaic-glass accessories.

Tools such as glass cutters and running pliers are designed to fit the hand and are easy to use. A specialized cutting board, which is available at most craft shops, will catch and hold tiny particles of glass (figure A).

Materials:

tile nippers, running pliers
straight edge
stained glass cutting board from craft shops or newspapers as a work surface for cutting glass
mosaic glass
safety glasses
glass cutter
Plexiglas as a base for the project
clear silicone
white grout

Steps:

  1. To cut, score glass, beginning just beyond the edge. Use running pliers to break the straight line.

  2. Get precut flower pieces to avoid cutting yourself.

  3. Put silicone on the back of the pieces as the Plexiglas is being assembled (figure B).

  4. Use tile nippers to cut random pieces or trim edges. Be as random as you'd like and enjoy the variety of pieces.

  5. Use white grout (from craft stores) and apply with a plastic spatula after the glass pieces have dried. Wipe the excess grout off with a moist sponge (figure C) after letting the grout set for about 15 minutes.
