Punched Wood Box

Punched wood box Figure B Figure C Figure D Figure E Figure F Figure G Create an ocean-themed box using basically the same methods as the inlaid box. All it takes are some scissors, a few punches, wood veneer sheets and a little imagination. Place two facing corner-punched walnut veneer squares onto a piece of Sticky Dots adhesive. Cut around the punched patterns with wavy scissors, creating a half-circle design. Make two of these, then peel the pieces away from the adhesive sheet, positioning one at the left and one at the right edge of the box top. Punch the same design in maple color veneer and use the punchouts to fill in the design punched in the walnut half circle. Stack a sheet of oak and a sheet of walnut veneer together and cut out the wavy pieces for decorating the top of box from both woods simultaneously. Cut fish designs from an oak veneer sheet, using a circle punch to create the eyes. Alternate the oak and walnut wavy pieces, adhering them on top of the box with adhesive dots. EmaginNature wood veneer paper
   - one 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of maple
   - one 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of walnut
   - one 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of oak

Steps:

1. Paint the box black and let it dry.

2. Varnish the box and let it dry.

3. Cut a piece of maple EmaginNature wood veneer paper measuring 10" x 2-3/4" for the top of the box. Punch a Snidely punch design on each corner. Punch a Deco punch on each corner and add a 1/4" hole punch in the point of each of the Deco punches. See pattern (figure A).

4. Cut a 9-1/2" x 2-1/2" piece of walnut EmaginNature wood veneer paper and punch a Treviso design in each corner. Punch a jumbo grapevine leaf design in center of each end of the walnut EmaginNature wood veneer paper pieces (figure B). Apply the adhesive dots to the back of the walnut pieces. Position the walnut pieces on top of the maple with the outer points of the walnut design going under the inside corner design of the maple piece designs (figure C).

5. Apply the adhesive dots to the back of the maple pieces and place them on the center top of the box.

6. Punch two jumbo grapevine leaves from maple EmaginNature wood veneer paper. Apply the adhesive dots to the back of each leaf. Place in the leaf-shaped hole in the walnut piece (figure D).

7. Punch out a jumbo grapevine leaf in the maple EmaginNature wood veneer paper. Center a super jumbo circle over the punch out and punch a maple circle with a leaf punched out of the center . Cut a 2" x 2" oak square. Punch each corner with the Colonial design punch. Punch one 1/8" hole in each corner. Apple the adhesive dots to the back of the square pieces and apply to the top of the box in the center with the corners pointing up and down and side to side.

7. Apply adhesive dots to the back of the super jumbo circle and apply to the top of the oak square. Punch a walnut giant grapevine leaf and glue it in the leaf hole in the maple circle (figure E).

8. Make corner accents for all of the box corners on the front and the sides of the box. Punch out Snidely and Treviso designs in maple, apply adhesive dots to the punchouts and place on corners.

9. To make a faux keyhole, punch a jumbo oval from oak EmaginNature wood veneer paper. In the center of the oval, punch a 1/4" hole overlapping a 1/8" hole. Position the "keyhole" at the front center of the box lid (figure F).

10. To decorate the center front of the box, punch out an oval cartoon bubble. Trim off the "tail" of the cartoon bubble to create an extra jumbo-sized oval, then punch a large grapevine leaf out of the center. Adhere it to the front of the box. Adhere two of the punchout corners at each end. Punch a walnut large grapevine leaf and insert in the center of the oval (figure F).

11. Repeat step 10 two more times, once for each end of the box, leaving off the corner punchouts (figure G).
