Canvas Creations

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-152 -- More Projects »
Guest Peggy Decker uses a prefabricated floor cloth canvas stretched across a simple homemade wooden frame to create her functional, beautiful works of art.

Use exterior latex house paint to add lustrous, long-wearing background color to floor cloth designs. Paint bold border lines using masking tape to create a straight edge guide, then paint stencils designs inside the lines. Peggy tapes the stencils onto the floor cloth canvas and uses paint crayons to make a palette of color to fill in the stencils. She recommends painting in a soft, circular motion and blending colors inside the stencil to achieve the best overall results. Once color has been applied to the floor cloth, seal the design with a paint sealer, and coat it with a water-based polyurethane varnish. Complete the cloth by turning the canvas edges under and cementing them down for a hemmed look.
