Carol presents several beautiful and inexpensive mosaic projects made with tile. She then assembles broken tile pieces into an attractive mosaic on a wooden tray.

Materials:

hot glue gun with glue
assorted pieces of tile
wooden tray
tile grout
paint brush for applying grout
clear varnish sealer
optional: old towel
optional: hammer

Steps:
  1. If the tiles aren't broken small enough, place them under a towel and bring the hammer down gently so the pieces break but are not pulverized.
  2. Using a hot glue gun, attach the broken tiles to a plain wooden tray with generous amounts of glue.
  3. Cover the tile with grout, and make sure that an ample amount of grout gets in between the tiles, and also between the tiles and the tray corners and sides.
  4. Let the grout dry until it is hard to the touch.
  5. Scrape away excess grout from the tile.
  6. Let the grout dry completely.
  7. Seal the grout (not the tile) with a clear varnish.
