Create decorative home or office accessories with the art of imitating painted porcelain. Use this same process to create personalized paperweights and lamps.

Materials:

clear glass plates, platters or vases (a plate is the easiest form to start with)
images - from magazines, photocopies of images in copyright-free image books, personal art work, wrapping papers, etc.
scissors
decoupage glue
acrylic paint
brushes

Steps:
  1. Clean and dry the plate or platter.
  2. Trace the outline of the dish on a piece of paper, and arrange the images on the outline before applying them.
  3. One at a time, spread glue on the front side of an image, and press it onto the underside of the dish. Push out any air bubbles, and repeat the process until the desired design takes shape. Let the glue dry.
  4. Coat the underside of the plate with a single color of acrylic paint, and let it dry.
  5. Apply a coat of clear latex polyurethane to seal the decoration.
Tip: To use as a paperweight, glue felt to the underside of the glass after the above steps are completed.
