Steps 10-12
10. The glass is heated and a metal pick is used to rake the glass into a feathered pattern. This is similar to using a knife in creating swirl stripes of icing into delicate pulls of color. To do so with molten glass, however, is very tricky!

11. Once again, the axis of the piece is changed by attaching a separate punty with a hot glass bit on the bottom and applying water to a jack-line to detach it from the first metal rod. Again, the design is floating. Gather more glass.

12. By using a wooden block, as well as a mitt made from wet newspaper, the final sculpture is shaped. The piece may also be shaped on a metal table called a marver. Roll the glass sculpture on the flat surface of the marver to shape and cool the glass. A final jack-line is squeezed down at this point.
