Hanging Glass "Fish Bones"

Materials:

fusible glass:
- red
- blue
- clear
scrap glass in various colors
glasscutter
instant glue
fishing line
kiln
copper sheeting
scissors

1. Cut the following glass pieces with a glass cutter:

• 2 large triangles for the head from clear glass
• 2 small triangles from clear glass for the tail
• 5 strips of red glass in graduating lengths for ribs
• 2 long strips of blue glass for the center bone

2. Arrange glass pieces to form the fish structure by placing the two center bone glass pieces on top of each other with the rib glass pieces perpendicular to the center bone spaced evenly along the length (figure A).

3. Cut two triangular pieces of copper sheeting—one for the fish head and one for the fish tail. Crinkle both pieces by curling them in your hand. Uncrinkle the copper pieces (figure B).

4. Place one triangular head piece at one end under the center bone, place one of the crinkled copper pieces on top and place the second head piece on top (figure C), sandwiching the center bone between the two head pieces (figure D).

5. Cut the second crinkled copper triangle into small strips. Place one of the small clear triangles at the other end under the center bone, top it with three of the copper strips (figure E) and place the second clear tail triangle on top, sandwiching the center bone between the two tail pieces.

6. Place a small drop of instant glue at the edge where the glass pieces touch each other to hold them in place (figure F).

7. Add two red scraps of glass for lips on the head and a small circle of black glass on top of a white ball of glass for the eye (figure G). Glue to hold with instant glue.

8. Add a scrap of green glass to each rib for decoration (figure H).

9. Move the fish to the kiln and follow instructions for the kiln for a medium fuse.

10. Once the glass has cooled, tie on fishing line to hang your "Fish Bones" art piece.
