Mary O'Neil, from Hot Potatoes, joins Carol Duvall to demonstrate her latest invention: tile stamps. O'Neil provides instructions for applying various sizes of tile stamps to create patterns for walls, tables and baseboards, and she explains how this project can save time, effort and - most importantly - money. O'Neil also creates matching wallpaper with her tile stamps, thereby producing a great solution for hard-to-reach areas.
Tiles Materials:
Hot Potatoes Faux Tile Stamps - discontinued, use any desired stamps
latex paint in desired colors
paint brushes of different sizes
lacquer for final finish
optional: WallMagic faux finish kit
Steps:
- Plan your design and color scheme. The area you work on should get a good coat of a dark color, which will later appear as grout. This should dry fairly quickly. Note: Black is usually too strong.
- Apply a base coat to a Hot Potatoes Faux Tile Stamp. Using a stencil brush, stipple a second color onto the wet tile stamp.
- With another brush, stipple a third color onto your stamp. Now stamp the design.
- Continue to do this until you have completed the entire area.
- Next, coat the entire area 3 times with a waterborne lacquer. This coat makes the "tile" really pop out.

Steps:
- Mary went to her local print shop and asked for extra paper on their runs, but store bought white or off-white pre-pasted wallpaper will also work. This will be your wallpaper.
- Lay out paper and stamp designs. Let dry.
- Apply the wallpaper paste and hang or if using pre-pasted wallpaper, simply following the wallpaper hanging instructions.
