Guest Mary O'Neil demonstrates a new technique for achieving a batik look by stamping out designs on clothing using household cleaners. O'Neil suggests using a dish washing detergent because it has a paint-like consistency.

Materials:
Cascade gel or household cleaners with bleach
garments made of natural fabric: linen, silk, cotton, rayon
foam brushes
big, bold rubber stamps
cardboard

Steps:
  1. Place the garment flat on a table with the cardboard under one layer of the fabric.
  2. Use a foam brush to apply a generous amount of the household cleaner to the stamp.
  3. Watch as the bleaching begins to take effect.
  4. Wait 24 hours, and then wash your garment.

Tip: A clean and ironed garment gives the best results.
