"Things that Fly" Faux Postage

Project designed by Michelle Ross.

Materials:

white paper
black ink pen
scissors
craft knife
rub on letters
small letter & number stamps
acetate sheets
repositionable glue
Post-it notes for masking
Y.I. Stamp Ink! - FP2 stamp frames, EC2 rubber stamps - discontinued
Zettiology rubber stamps - 4402C, 3104C
coloring medium of your choice: ink pads
scissors
colored pencils, markers, etc.

Steps:

1. Stamp your "frame stamp" in black onto plain white paper.

2. Using Post-it notes, mask off the area to be decorated.

3. Stamp dove in black and reduce to fit the frame by using a copy machine.

4. Using stencil brushes and dye ink pads, stipple in yellow and peach color over the dove. Cut out the dove.

5. Stipple lavender, turquoise and sky blue colors inside the frame using stencil brushes.

6. Remove Post-it masking. Position and adhere dove.

7. Stamp words in black. Stipple on color and adhere as above.

8. Stamp out a denomination if desired and adhere to the frame stamp with the other components.

Tips:

  • Save the original art work and have color copies made. Use the copies for your mail art.
  • Never try to fool the post office by using faux postage instead of real postage. Use only real postage in the right-hand corner of envelopes.
  • A word about "sticking" on the faux postage--you can use glue stick or any glue you have, or you can buy envelope and postage stamp glue. Just brush it on and let it dry or make your own glue. Just mix equal parts of white glue and white vinegar--brush on a light coat and let dry, then lick and stick!
