They look like miniature ceramic tiles but in reality they are sections of paper that have been embossed, stenciled then treated with embossing powder. The effect is totally surprising.
Materials:
Dreamweaver Stencils:
- mosaic tile stencil
- fish stencil*
watercolor paper or cardstock
light board
stylus
embossing ink pad
clear embossing powder
stencil paint
small brush
Scotch Brand removable tape
Tip: *Because you will lifting and moving the paper and stencil several times it is a good idea to tape them together with removable tape to keep things lined up properly.
Steps:
- Place tile stencil on light board and cover with cardstock or paper. Emboss the entire grid.
- Lift paper and stencil from light board, turn over and place fish stencil on top. Color in the fish using a small stencil brush or a sponge dauber.
- Remove fish stencil and with the grid stencil still in place color in the background again using a small stencil brush.
- Still keeping the stencil and paper together lift the two and place on a large piece of paper or a paper plate. Coat the entire surface with embossing ink by patting with the embossing inked pad then sprinkle clear embossing powder over it all. Pick everything up carefully and remove all excess powder.
- Carefully remove the metal stencil. Note whether any of the powder got into any of the spaces between the "tiles." If it did, carefully remove by using a tiny brush.
- With heat gun emboss the entire surface. The result will be a piece of paper that resembles miniature tiles. The paper can then be framed, turned into a card or transferred to any surface to which paper can be applied.
