Anyone would enjoy receiving this audible greeting card created by stamping expert Jane Beard. When the "receiver" is raised, the sound module hidden within the card releases a telephone ring. With different sounds available like hilarious laughter and birthday greetings, why buy a plain card again?

Materials:

card stock - glossy or matte
telephone stamp
sound module
permanent marker
scissors
ribbon for telephone cord
craft knife
foam mounting tape

Steps:

1. Cut card stock to 5" x 15".

2. Divide card into three equal parts and lightly mark divisions with pencil to create sections A, B and C.

3. Use marker to ink the receiver on the phone stamp, center and stamp the design in section A (figure A).

4. Cut edge of mouthpiece below fold line to allow mouthpiece to separate away from card.

5. Score all folds, but do not score across mouthpiece (figure A).

6. Cut away center between ear piece and mouthpiece in section A.

7. Fold up section C.

8. Fold down section A, and line up the phone base for stamping in section C.

9. Ink the phone base with a marker, and stamp on section C.

10. Stamp or write an inside message above the stamped phone base.

11. Attach sound module to section B (figure A), noting the placement of the activation tab on the center fold.

12. Cut small slits on receiver and phone base, attach ribbon through slits, and secure with tape (figure B).

13. Remove plastic seal on sound module.

14. Tape top of section C to top of section B using thin strips of foam mounting tape (figure B).

15. Fold down section A to complete your pop-up sound card.

16. Decorate, color or add your own special touches.

Tips:

  • With thicker modules, use paper that is 5-1/2" x 16-1/2", and allow a quarter inch between double fold lines on the bottom panel.
  • Use a stamp positioner to get the two halves of the phone in exactly the right spots. (Guest Jane Beard used tracing paper and an L-shaped cutout of a Post-it note.)
  • For added dimension, cut out an extra dial and mount it on top of the existing dial with foam tape.
  • Sound modules are delicate, so handle them with care for best results.
