Figure B
Host Kathi Cardinalli explains how to create a duvet cover from a child's drawing (see photo at right).

Materials:

duvet cover in the desired size
fabric crayon
child's drawing
textile paint in colors of choice
sponge brush
flat brushes in a variety of sizes
craft stamp of choice with flexible backing

Steps:

  1. Use a fabric crayon to draw a 3-1/2 x 4-inch border around the perimeter of the duvet fabric.

  2. Begin duplicating portions, or all, of the child's drawing.

  3. Paint the design with a sponge brush and/or a flat brush (figure A). The sponge brush is good for making straight lines.

  4. Paint over a craft stamp until the area is thoroughly covered (figure B), then add to the cover for contrast.

  5. Allow the fabric to dry.

  6. Heat-set design with an iron or in a hair dryer.

  7. Place the duvet cover on the bed to see if it looks good. If not, wash out the crayon and start over.

Tips

  • Prewash the fabric before beginning the project.

  • Let your child help with the project.
