Silk Sheer Sachets
Today at Home : Episode TAH-550 -- More Projects »
Sewing expert Linda Lee demonstrates how to create metallic silk sheer sachets. She includes information on hand-stitching sheers with decorative threads, filling the sections, finishing the edges and what types of potpourri to use with fabrics.
Materials:
silk organza
metallic silk organza
scissors
iron
chalk
chalk marker
cable-twisted rayon thread
straight pins
Steps:
- Tear the silk organza into two square pieces.
- Tear the metallic silk organza into two smaller square pieces.
- Iron the edges.
- Stack the smaller metallic pieces (squares) onto the larger pieces.
- Using a chalk marker and chalk, draw a vertical line down the center of the smaller metallic silk organza square.
- Repeat the previous step, but draw a horizontal line. This will make four sachets.
- Brush away the chalk lines.
- Tie a knot (part of the design) in the end of the cable-twisted rayon thread.
- Do a hand stitch (figure A) across the metallic silk organza square, following the vertical and horizontal lines that have been brushed. Do NOT sew the edges.
- Four pockets have been created. Fill each with potpourri (figure B). Note that you will need to pin the pockets closed after filling, before sewing closed.
- Once the four pockets are filled, sew the edges to finish the project. Note that the thread knots are part of the design.
