This little tote is smaller than most but it can admirably serve a large purpose as a convenient, practical and roomy little carrier. It's also an easy-to-make contribution to fairs and bazaars.

Materials:

1 yd. double-sided, quilted fabric
ruler or measuring tape
scissors
sewing machine

Steps:
  1. For a tote that measures approximately 9" high and 2" deep, cut fabric 16" by 23". Cut two 4" by 33" pieces for the handles.
  2. Fold tote fabric in half across the width with wrong sides facing. Sew 1/4" seams along both side edges.
  3. Turn piece inside out so that the right sides are facing. Create a French seam by sewing along the side edges, enclosing the previously stitched seam allowances.
  4. Fold the top edge over 1/2" then fold over another 1". Stitch across the top edge to finish.
  5. Place your hands inside bag, and pull them apart to flatten the bag and force the two bottom corners into a point in the center. Draw a straight line measuring 2" across one end and stitch across. Repeat on the other side of the bag. To ensure that the lines are perfectly straight, measure down each side from the center point before stitching. Turn tote right side out.
  6. Fold lengths of handle fabric lengthwise with right sides facing, and stitch the length of each piece, taking a 1/4" seam. Turn right side out and press. Turn the ends in to hide any raw edges, and stitch to the inside of the top edge of tote.
