Even an old pillowcase found at a yard sale can be turned into a treasure. Whether you are crafting or cleaning house, this pillowcase "apron" carries all the necessities of the moment.

Materials:

pillowcase
scissors

Steps:
  1. Cut a 10-inch wide strip from across the bottom of the pillowcase and another two-inch wide strip above that (figure A).
  2. On the 10-inch piece, turn in one-inch along the open edge twice and stitch all the way around to create a hem along the top edge.
  3. Cut the narrow strip at each side edge so you have two strips of fabric (figure B). Fold each strip into thirds lengthwise and stitch. Sew one to each side of the apron to make ties.
  4. Stitch from the hemmed edge to the bottom edge two or three times across the width of the piece to form pockets (figure C). Stitch through both thicknesses of fabric.
Optional Version:
  1. With pillowcase flat on tabletop, fold the bottom edge up about seven or eight inches. Stitch up both side edges and at two or three equally spaced intervals along the turned up portion to form the pockets. Stitch through all layers.
  2. About three inches above the top edge of the pockets, cut across pillowcase. Fold raw edges in and sew across stitching through all four layers of fabric.
  3. Cut two- or three-inch wide strip of fabric from the top portion of the pillowcase and make ties as described above. Stitch to side edges of apron.
