Steps:

  1. Measure opening of bookcase. Cut one piece of fabric and one piece of lining one inch wider and two inches taller than opening.
  2. Sew lining and fabric right sides together with a 1/2-inch seam allowance leaving opening for turning. Turn right side out and press, stitch opening closed.
  3. Pin ring tape to lining side of shade, five inches in from each side edge. Tape should begin one inch from top edge and end one inch from bottom edge. Stitch close to each side of tape. Turn up and stitch a one inch hem in the bottom edge of the shade to create a casing.
  4. Pin loop side of Velcro hook and loop tape along the wrong side of the top edge. Stitch close to each edge.
  5. Tie cord to the bottom ring of each tape and run the cords through all the rings up to the top.
  6. Remove backing from remaining side of Velcro tape and adhere it to the top front edge of the bookcase. Place shade over tape. Install a screw eye in the bookcase just above the top rings. Run the right hand cord through the screw eye directly above it from left to right. Run the left cord through the screw eye directly above it from left to right and then run it through the right screw eye. Both cords will be on the right hand side of the bookcase. Tie the cords together.
  7. Insert a dowel into the casing at the bottom of the shade. Install a cleat on the side of the bookcase. Pull shade up and secure cords around the cleat.
