1. Fuse home decor fusible bond to the linen to reinforce the tote bag (figure A). 2. Center the faux leather piece on the linen and stitch one side. Pin the top side, leaving the center of the faux leather open (figure B).
3. Interface one side of the outer pocket. Find the center and fold in 1 inch. Match points to the center to form the triangular pocket. Press and add piping to reinforce the top edge (figure C). Pin and stitch along the edge of the pocket to secure the piping.
4. Insert the bottom of the pocket piece and tuck the piping into the opening from step 2, pushing in about 1/2 inch on each side to allow room to insert items into the pocket. Pin and stitch using a twin needle.
5. Attach nylon webbing (straps) to the lining.
Organizer pocket suggestions:
- cell phone pocket: reinforce by topstitching the edges; position onto the lining; pin in place.
- umbrella sleeve: line with vinyl; position onto the lining; pin in place.
- drink/water bottle holder: reinforce the top with a piece of vinyl; position onto the lining; pin in place.
- organizer pocket: add desired pockets; place under zipper flap; pin in place; stitch all pockets to lining.
Tip: If pockets are attached at the edges, sew at the same time side seams are sewn together.
6. With the right sides together, sew the side seams.
